BTV Update 07.14.09

Friends,

Just a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to take this picture of men setting the power poles just outside the school & church grounds. It was quite exciting to the elders of the community and I as we sat outside and watched these poles and lines installed by hand. I could not help but to think that this will be the first opportunity for electrical power in our community. The community has done fine without electricity for thousands of years, yet with this power source we can surely use it to improve their well-being and to encourage them – a number of projects come to mind – the development of a computer lab, utilization of audio training series for our students and even providing something as simple as refrigeration, to name but a few.

We praise our Lord for this gift and for our friends who have helped provide funding to make the electrical lines a reality. Now we want to share with you a summary of what’s been going on over the past month:

The courts granted BTV, Noel Children’s Home full guardianship of two additional infants. This brings our total of children in our home to 5.
The foundation of the 3rd school building is complete and is waiting additional funding to raise the walls.
Water continues to be an issue and we will be placing additional storage tanks to capture the rain water.
We are in the process of acquiring our first school bus for Noel Academy, we’re selling the ministry vehicle to help fund the school van.
The orphanage is doing very well. It’s well staffed and the children are very well feed and happy.

We were delighted to host our home church Colonial Baptist from Cary, NC during the month of June. This team was able to teach at Noel and also provide a VBS program there as well as at several schools throughout the community. Hundreds of children were exposed to a number of heroes of the Old Testament and most importantly to the gospel of Jesus Christ. The women also hosted a tea for the ladies of BTV/Choimim, providing music, testimonies and also manicures for these special ladies! We extend our sincere thanks and gratitude for this very hard-working and loving team for sharing their gifts, talents and love with this Kenyan community and the BTV staff.

Thank you again for partnering with us, as always we greatly appreciate and thank you for your prayers and support. We look forward to sharing more with you soon.
